Sensei Barry Ripley passes

Long time Moncton Karate instructor, Sensei Barry Ripley passed away earlier today.

Sensei Barry began training in karate in 1966 while in university. He continued his training in Saint John, NB.

In 1974, he moved to Moncton and started his own club while also teaching in Truro, Sackville and Fredericton.

In 1977, he received his black belt from Master Takashina. He later tested for Nidan in 1979. Many of his students have gone on to become 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Dans. He also coached many people to medals in kata and kumite. Sensei Barry has been taught by many karate masters such as Tanaka, Yaguchi, Tsuroka, Hogachi, Maxfield, Simpson, LeBoeuf, Okazaki, Takashina, Woon-A-Tai and many others,

Condolence to his family and close friends Janice and Craig, and to all those who’s lives he touched through his mentorship and friendship.
