The Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy has announced a new schedule for the Fall. Classes will resume for youth starting in September. Covid-19 protocols are in place. Social Distancing is being followed in the dojo with 2 meters separating students. Masks must be worn in the lobby at all times. Student must wear a mask while entering the dojo but they can remove them once they reach their spot to train. Bring a water bottle and a towel. Tuesday and Thursday classes are as follows: 4-5 pm – Youth Class (12 and under)5-6 pm – Open Training6-7 pm – Adult Class (13 +)

The Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy will reopen classes starting July 7th. Class times will be Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6-7pm We will be implementing a few things to maintain the health & safety for our members that choose to attend class. Students encouraged to wear gi to and from training.Students may wear masks to training if they wish to do so.Students to bring own water bottles.Students/persons in the Dojo upon entering clean/sanitize hands. We have a contactless dispenser located just inside the door.Students may wear yoga socks (grip on the sole) or martial art shoes on the tatami. Dojo Classes will continue but we will be implementing a few things to maintain the health & safety for our members that choose to attend class. No partner work for now, only basics, kata and sparring drills We ask that students DO NOT touch each other and attempt to follow the 1-2 metre social distance measures No tag, grabbing, wrestling, etc Contact surfaces will be cleaned before and after classes Practise good hygiene Wash your hands before and after class Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Dispose used tissues in the garbage and wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand rub immediately after. If you don’t have a tissue, cough and sneeze into your elbow, not your hand. Winter Clinic a huge success!

The Maritime IKD hosted another great clinic on Saturday. Shihan David Pyke, 8th Dan, provided the large group of local karateka with an excellent day of training in basics, kata and self defense. The day ended with 60 students testing for kyu ranks and 1 student testing for 2nd degree black belt. Great job by all. Continue your training and always strive to improve. OSU!
