Maritime IKD hosts successful clinic

The Maritime IKD hosted Fuku Shuseki Shihan Maureen Woon-A-Tai, 9th Dan, this past weekend. During the weekend clinic, several karateka took part in special training to be promoted to their next rank. Congratulations to all and a special congratulations to:

Maritime IKD Tournament πŸ—“

Saturday, November 18 @ Cumberland North Academy,

Registration deadline:                  Tuesday, November 14 by 9pm

Registration details:                      Name, Dojo, Rank (specific Kyu/Dan), Age (on November 18), Gender

Cost:                                                     $10 PER PERSON

Schedule:    9:00 am Judge Refresher/training – Brown & Black Belts age 13+

                        10:00am setup for actual tournament

                        10:30am -5pm Tournament – Order: Individual Kata, Team Kata, Team Bunkai, Individual Kumite

Volunteers needed to do scorekeeping and timekeeping.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: (Separate Youth VS Adult and some by gender and/or rank depending on age/level and registration numbers)

  • Beginner: 9th Kyu (White), 8th Kyu (Yellow)7th Kyu (Orange)
    • Kata elimination: Heian Shodan flag system (2 perform simultaneously)
    • Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
    • Kumite: Sanbon – jodan, chudan, gedan/counter attack
  • Intermediate: 6th Kyu (Green), 5th Kyu (Blue), 4th Kyu (Purple)
    • Kata elimination: Heian Yondan flag system
    • Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
    • Kumite: Ippon – jodan, chudan, mae-geri (no kekomi attack, no penalty for same counter attacks)
  • Advance: 3rd Kyu, 2nd Kyu, 1st Kyu (Brown)
    • Kata elimination: Heian Nidan to Tekki Shodan flag system
    • Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
    • Kumite eliminations: Jiyu ippon kumite (no contact allowed); no kekomi/mawashi-geri attack, no penalty for same counter attacks; Favorite sides for each attack. However, once announced attacker cannot change sides.
    • Kumite Finals: Jiyu kumite (no contact allowed)
  • Black Belts
    • Kata elimination: Heian Nidan to Tekki Shodan flag system
    • Kata Finals: Tokui kata point system
    • Kumite Eliminations & Finals: Jiyu kumite

TEAM EVENTS:

  • Team Kata & Team Bunkai
    • Tentatively by age group Youth and Adult
    • Mixed Genders/ranks allowed

New Schedule and Pricing in Amherst

Summer is almost over and time to go back to karate!

Regular Schedule will resume Thursday September 7

Tuesdays & Thursdays

Youth Class4:00 pm

Our training fees haven’t changed since 2019 but the costs have increased, so its time for a new fee schedule.

We are switching to a Semester program, there are four 3 month semesters in a year starting in September.

The new standardized fee:

  • Youth (under 13) will be $125 per Semester (includes HST), payable within the first 2 weeks.
  • Teen & Adults will be $175 per Semester (includes HST), payable within the first 2 weeks.

Discounts available to families of more than 2 members, and to those that pay annually.

Monthly fees can be made available.

The advanced class on Sundays will move to Saturdays, 11am-12:30pm starting September 9

We are also planning on adding some new programs on Saturday morning:

  • Family Class – an opportunity to train at the same time
  • Silver Tigers – for those 50+
  • Self Defence – once a month during advanced class timeslot.

Amherst Dojo switches to Summer Schedule

Youth Class (4pm Tuesdays & Thursdays)

  • The last class was Thursday June 22

Teen & Adult Class (youth brown belts may attend too)

  • Starting this Tuesday June 27, change in format for classes
    • Tuesdays & Thursday
      • 5-6pm   Open Practice
      • 6-7pm   Instruction
    • No classes on Sunday

New Black Belts and a National Medal of Service

During the 2023 IKD Coupe Canada Cup, three members of the Maritime IKD were promoted to new black belt ranks. Congratulations to:

  • Heather Gaudet, Rokudan
  • Kaleigh Page, Shodan
  • Madilyn Page, Shodan

Sensei Norm Robitza was presented with the IKD National Medal of Service and was promoted to an A Level, International Tournament Judge.

NEW BRUNSWICK WINS!!!

The IKD Coupe Canada Cup was held May 19-21 in Moncton, NB. The event saw Team NB capture the most Gold Medal with over 50 being presented. This earned New Brunswick the right to hoist the Canada Cup. Congratulations to all those that competed. It takes courage and dedication to represent your dojo, your province and yourself, winning or losing doesn’t matter.

The official results of the tournament will be released soon along with a photo gallery.

Maritime IKD Team Vests

The Maritime IKD Team Vests are available for members of the Maritime IKD.

Price is $65 for vest with embroidered crest inclusive of taxes. An additional $5 for each additional line of text. (eg Team NB, name)
