Casey Arseneau started her training at the Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy in November 2014. She had heard about karate classes at the dojo on Spring Street and wanted to give it a try.
She received her 3rd Kyu in December 2016 from Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai.
“I like it when Sensei Woon-A-Tai comes to visit. He has a lot of experience and stories to tell,” she said.
Casey has competed at three Maritime IKD tournaments. At her first tournament in 2015, she placed 1st in Kata. Her second event was in 2016 where she earned second in kata and third in kumite. Recently, she competed at the Maritime IKD Youth event in Moncton and earned second in kata.
The 12 year old enjoys karate because it allows her to challenge herself and set goals to achieve. No matter how difficult her training becomes, she always has a huge smile on her face.
She is enrolled in French Immersion at her school and also like social studies and science class. Casey loves to sing and play basketball.
Casey’s goal is to achieve her Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) before she graduates high school. If she keeps working the way she has been she should have not trouble doing that.
