The Maritime IKD would like to welcome the Sunrise Shotokan Karate Club to the family. Sunrise Shotokan Karate is location in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. Classes are instructed by Sensei Enid Schaller. Sensei Enid began training in 1998 and has been a long standing member of the ISKF. Members of the Maritime IKD who have been training for some time may remember Sensei Enid from ISKF Tournaments and Clinics. Sunrise Shotokan Karate will be starting new classes on February 1. More information on the club and Sensei Enid will be available soon.

Robitza and Stuart earn IKD Instructor ranks

Over the last 4 weeks, Sensei Norm Robitza and Sensei Roy Stuart each tested for ranks in the IKD Kenshusei program (Instructor Intern Training program). Sensei Robitza is now an IKD National level Instructor. Sensei Stuart is now an IKD Senior Provincial Instructor. The IKD Kenshusei program is a special training course to prepare future master level instructors and examiners. Shihan David and Janice Pyke have both graduated this program. Congratulations to Sensei Robitza and Sensei Stuart.

Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy will be holding a grading on November 28 at the dojo in Amherst. Specifics to follow but the plan is white-purple belts in morning for a class followed by the test and brown-black belts in the afternoon.Parents can watch/take pictures/videoAttendance is important to get enough classes and skills. The pandemic has greatly effected karate training over the last several months. Back in the Spring, PEI Shotokan Karate Daigaku and Sackville Shotokan Karate started Zoom classes online. The Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy soon followed. PEI was the first dojo to reopen in the Summer followed by Amherst. Last week, we learned that a new dojo will be opening in Riverview, NB and today Moncton IKD has announced that they have a location for classes to begin again. The only dojo that is still waiting for a restart is Sackville Shotokan Karate. Due to classes being held at Mount Allison University and the schools policies not being reviewed until October have put a freeze on the club until then.
