The Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy has started its transition into the Summer schedule. Last week, Sunday classes and Youth classes went on hiatus for July and August.

July 8th will also be the final Zoom class, for now, as restrictions have been lifted enough to allow students from New Brunswick enter Nova Scotia.

The Summer Schedule for Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy is as follows:

Dojo is open:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • 5-6pm open practice
  • 6-7pm instruction

Nova Scotia Dojos reopen

Starting today, Nova Scotia will move into Phase 2. This will allow Nova Scotia dojos to reopen. Check with your Sensei on when classes will start up with the new regulations.

Also the Atlantic Provinces have announced that Inter-provincial travel will begin again soon.

Riverview East Sparring Clinic 🗓

Riverview East Karate is pleased to have TWO very special guests coming to host a sparring clinic on Monday June 21st.

Sensei Craig O’Neil, 5th Dan, won the karate provincials for fighting 7 times and competed nationally as well. He started training in karate in 1986 and received his black belt in 1993. He has many years of teaching and competing and we are very lucky to have him come to Riverview for sparring training.

Joining him will be Sensei Barry Ripley, a karate founder in our area who started training in 1966.

The clinic will be at the Coverdale Rec Center on Runnymeade Rd. Riverview, NB.

This is a free event. There will be 2 separate groups 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Sparring gloves (red or blue) can be purchased at the dojo for $35. Please make every attempt to attend this special class.

Maritime IKD donates to GKC.

The Maritime IKD recently held a virtual kata tournament.

1st Maritime IKD Virtual Kata Tournament

The Maritime IKD hosted the 1st Virtual Kata Tournament over the past several weeks. Competitors recorded katas in their dojos or homes and sent them to the Maritime IKD. Officials worked hard to get all of the performances judged within a week once the deadline was reached.

The tournament results and a gallery of the competitor videos are available for all to see on the Events page.
