Shawn Levering started training in September 2017 at the Mount Allison club. Where he has been training under the guidance for Sensei Norm Robitza and Sensei Jolene Robitza.
“I started training because I had always wanted to try it as a child, but didn’t. I had also wondered whether or not I would be good at it, so when I saw that Mount Allison had a Shotokan Karate club, I was very excited to finally be able to give it a try.”
Shawn recently attended his first grading and was excited to be promoted from white belt to orange belt by Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai.
“Karate is a very fun experience for me. Although it takes a lot of practice and focus , it has been quite an exciting and rewarding experience, and a great stress reliever as well.”
Shawn is from Truro, NS but currently he is a full-time Psychology student at Mount Allison University. He like to write and really enjoys journaling and poetry as well as music, food, exercising and learn about the brain.
“Karate was a great confidence booster for me. I had never done it before September and was unsure of whether I’d do well. But through practice, encouragement and support I learned that you can surprise yourself – and I try to think of that outside of training as well.”
