Jenna Stewart of the Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy is the August Student of the Month.
Jenna is 11 years old and about to enter grade 6.
She began training in September 2012 at the Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy under the instruction of Shihan David and Sensei Janice Pyke.
“I was always interested in some type of self defence training but never took the first step until a friend asked me to join with her,” she said.
She has enjoyed karate since day one and feels it has helped greatly with her confidence level. She has found that rank examinations have helped her get used to being in front of large groups of people.
Jenna’s favorite part of training is kata. Her love of kata has helped her win a bronze medal at 2013 Maritime IKD Championship. She hopes to compete more often in the future.
Jenna is a hard worker and can often be seen in both the youth afterschool class and again at the 6pm class at the Maritime IKD Honbu Dojo in Amherst.
Recently, Jenna achieved her 3rd Kyu (brown belt). She is well on her way to achieving her next goal of achieving her Shodan by the time she complete grade 8.
Good luck and congratulations, Jenna.
