Mireille Roy

Mireille Roy - Moncton, NB

After years of watching her grandson, Samuel, training and accomplishing so much, Mireille Roy wanted to give karate a try.

"I saw that karate was something that I really wanted to try."

Mireille started practicing at home with the help of her grandson. It took me over a year of training with her grandson and lots of encouragement from Sempai Carole Richard to build the courage to start training at the dojo.

"I am very grateful for the push that Sempai Carole gave me. It was a hard decision to make at the age of 64 to start a new journey."

In September 2017, she made the decision to start training at St. Pat's in Moncton with Sensei Isabelle Bordage and Sensei Michel Gaudet.

On Dec 2, 2017, Mireille took part in her very first grading with Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai and his son Sensei Ken Woon-A-Tai. She worked very hard during the clinic and grading. She achieved a major accomplishment as a white belt. She went from being white to orange belt thanks to an outstanding performance during the grading.

"I was very overwhelmed with emotions but with a great sense of accomplishment."

Before karate, Mireille was a hairdresser for 36 years. She also love to do yoga, reading and the outdoors.

"I would like to say Thank You to all the of the Sensei and to my grandson, Samuel, for all of the help that I got during my sessions and my grading. I am so glad that I did take the step to start karate. I love to practice every day and hope to participate in many more sessions and grading for many more years to come."
